Based on the Broadway musical, "Hairspray Live!" takes place in 1962 Baltimore, where teenager Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on The Corny Collins Show. When, against all odds, Tracy wins a role, she becomes a celebrity overnight and meets dreamboat Link, ambitious mean girl Amber, dance whiz Seaweed and his mother, record-store owner Motormouth Maybelle. Tracy's mother, the indomitable Edna, encourages Tracy on her campaign to integrate the all-white Corny Collins Show.
